Troy is the county seat of Rensselaer County which consists of a picturesque 653 acres with approximately 153,000 residents.   Centrally located, Rensselaer County is at the crossroads of the northeast with a network of two major interstate highways (I-87 and I-90) connecting the east's major cities: New York City (160 miles), Boston (170 miles), Montreal (215 miles), Washington (380 miles) and Buffalo (290 miles).   The 6 th busiest Amtrak station in the nation is located in the city of Rensselaer, just south of Troy, which puts New York City just 140 miles away.  

 

Troy is also home to many fine educational institutions.   Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a world class facility, is the oldest technological institute in the English speaking world.    The Sage Colleges and a top two year institution, Hudson Valley Community College are also located in Troy.    The Capital Region has over 60,000 students enrolled in the more than 12 four year and six two year higher education institutions in the area.  

Numerous national and global companies in a variety of industries are located in Rensselaer County including Albany International, Fujicolor Processing, MapInfo Corporation, and MetLife.   In addition Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is at the forefront of start-up companies at its Incubator Center.   Rensselaer County also offers outstanding labor resources – both skilled and semi-skilled.
